Kessler Collection, known for their artistically inspired hotels that are unique to their location, enlisted the help of Robins & Morton when they set out to construct the Grand Bohemian Hotel in Mountain Brook, Alabama. With budget and timeliness in mind, Robins & Morton was tasked with constructing a Tudor-style hotel that would, unbeknownst to the team, be wrought with challenges, while continuing to keep cost-saving on the forefront of the project.
Despite challenging site conditions, design modifications, and delayed shipments of high-end finishes, Robins & Morton exercised detailed pre-construction planning and creative in-project scheduling techniques to provide the owner with $2.16 million in value engineering. Robins & Morton also provided alternatives for owner-provided, custom items that arrived broken or not working properly, making it possible for the hotel to open ahead of schedule.
Upon completion, Kessler Collection was left with a 100-room boutique hotel, conference center and spa. The building is 116,663 square feet and features an onsite Grand Bohemian Art Gallery, Kessler signature Poseidon Spa, meeting and event space, and a vibrant rooftop bar and restaurant. The construction of the Grand Bohemian Hotel has paved the way for the larger planned development, Lane Park.
